Story of my life

When a 13 year old Korean girl started her first day at Kilo Middle School, all she was learned to say were “Hi,” “Bye,” “Thank you,” “Yes,” and “No.” This little girl’s name was Hansol. She and her family flew to Seattle in pursuit of better education from South Korea. But after few months of living in the rain, her family decided to move to Los Angeles where the most businesses are. Hansol had a hard time adapting to a new school because she missed her old friends in Seattle. After another couple months, her family found a new business in small town called Apple Valley. Hansol wasn’t too happy with the fact that she needs to transfer her school once again. But despite her worries, she met great friends in Granite Hills High School. Hanging out with her friends, she became more enthusiastic about her career goal and future. She started to look for volunteer opportunities and got her first job in small acupuncture clinic. Because she wanted to become a doctor since she was in 4th grade in elementary school, she loved helping out. Hansol decided to join in the Army reserves to take another step towards becoming an army doctor. It sure wasn’t easy for this little girl to get through Army trainings but because she loved her green uniform, she was able to cheer up and accomplish her mission. Although monthly trainings are tiring, she is determined to become a soldier who is ready to help others.

Hansol goes by Hannah since her name sounds like a guy from a childhood story, Hansel. Hannah loves playing ultimate Frisbee and water sports in her down time. She is a Christian and eldest among her siblings. She seems shy but once you get her to talk, she can be pretty funny. At least she thinks. Hannah also likes to listen to so-called, hood music. So if you know any good songs with good beats, let her know ;)

  1. I can’t believe how incredible your English has become after only being in the country for about 5 years. I commend you for being bilingual and wish that I was myself. I also really enjoyed how you wrote in the 3rd person; it made your story fun to read!
